On April 14, 2023, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock jointly met the press after co-chairing the sixth round of China-Germany Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy and Security in Beijing.

When asked by a journalist about the role of China and Germany in world peace and development, Qin Gang said that the world is in the midst of change and disorder, and is getting more noisy, fanatical, and more liable to go to the extreme, making people deeply worried. What has gone wrong with the world? Where should humanity go from here? How should China and Germany respond? These are the questions the two sides should have deep reflections upon. Both the Chinese nation and the German nation are well-known for their calmness and rationality, and both have produced great sages and philosophers, like Lao Tzu and Confucius in China, and Immanuel Kant and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel in Germany. Both China and Germany need to contemplate on what they can do for world peace and tranquility and human development and progress under the current circumstances. Historical mistakes and tragedies must not be repeated. The two nations and the politicians and diplomats in both countries should show calmness and rationality, keep bilateral relations to the right direction of development, and maintain the positive momentum of growth of practical cooperation, so as to inject more confidence and impetus into the uncertain world.
