Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs Liu Xiaoming Visits Germany

On 11 April 2023, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs Liu Xiaoming held talks with Minister of State Tobias Lindner of the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. The two sides exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula issue, China-Germany relations, and regional and international issues of shared interest.

Liu Xiaoming shared China's policy and position on the Korean Peninsula issue. He stressed that the parties concerned should squarely recognize the crux of the Peninsula issue, dispel biased and untruthful narratives, stop confrontation and pressure campaign, and address each other's concerns, especially the legitimate concerns of the DPRK, in a balanced manner through meaningful dialogue. He expressed China's readiness to work with Germany to step up communication and cooperation on bilateral and multilateral affairs, promote all-round development of China-Germany relations, and make more contribution to world peace, stability and development.

Tobias Lindner said that Germany supports resolving the Korean Peninsula issue through dialogue, values communication and cooperation with China on this issue, and will work with China to maintain peace and stability on the Peninsula. He expressed Germany's preparedness to work with China to further enhance bilateral and multilateral collaboration, promote the sound and steady growth of China-Germany relations, and jointly respond to global challenges.

On the same day, Liu Xiaoming had a roundtable discussion with Vice President Rolf Nikel and other scholars of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) over the Korean Peninsula, the Ukraine crisis, and other regional and international hotspots issues.
